Photoshop
I used photo shop to actually make my whole magazine and it was a very good piece of software to
use. Within photo shop, I used several tools to make my magazine how I wanted it to look. I used
the crop tool on my images, to crop them to the size I wanted them to be and make them fit to the
page as I wanted. Another tool that I used, was the brightness and contrast tool for my images, I
used this to add an effect to them, so that they would look better on the page, as I gathered good
images, and then I need to make them fit into the page appropriately with the brightness and
contrast levels. For example, if I collected a dull image, I would lift the brightness levels to
ensure that the details in this image are highly visible and noticeable. These are just some of the
tools on photo shop that I used whilst making my magazine.
Text
I used text a lot for my magazine, as obviously text was something that magazine had to have on it
to make it successful. I used a variety of texts, sizes and variations to make my magazine. I used
different variations to give my audience something else to look at, so they wouldn’t get bored of
looking at the same font styles throughout the magazine. Different fonts can represent different
target audiences, I managed to find fonts that I thought would be associated with the target
audience I was aiming my magazine at. Also the amount of text you have on the front cover is a key
point to be aware, if you have too much writing your target audience may get bored of reading it,
so they may want little bits of writing they can read quickly and still give them good information.
Image
The images that I took for my media magazine are all taken by a camera borrowed from the college. I took them making sure that my target audience was represented by the model. The clothing of the model was very important, as clothing was one of the most important things to attract and represent the target audience, especially with the clothing brands they wear. The way I had my model positioned was key as well, because for the magazine that I was making, the models are
usually standing in a stance where they are looking fierce, not in a friendly way. If my models
were standing in a friendly way, then it would not be suited for my magazine genre, it would not be
a good representation of the genre.
Rulers
I used rulers on photo shop, to make sure that everything was aligned. I done this to make my
magazine look as professional as possible. By having rulers for my magazine, it made it a lot
easier for me to make sure that everything was in the correct position and the correct size. Using
rulers made everything a lot easier for me so that I wouldn’t have to guess where things were or
how each of them aligned with each other, the use of rules made me be able to put them in a place
and if necessary move them to make sure that they were in the same alignment as the other set of
text.
